Street Shoot – Brickfields

Felt like Thosai today, so I woke up – rode my Vespa over to Brickfields for a quick Thosai. I was being very careful as I didn’t want to go to a place where the SOP compliance is poor. After circling around, a few times – I saw that Sri Pandi had an outdoor table, and it was quite spaced apart.

Spaced apart – away from the crowd.

After breakfast, I did a quick walkabout, equipped with mask (and spares too) and hand sanitizer. Paid particular attention to make sure I am socially distanced from any of my subjects. I also equipped myself with 35mm. Not a lens that I typically bring out, in fact I don’t even remember the last time I used that lens. Anyway – it was quite a change, but given that I need to be socially distanced, it was quite a good lense. I could have used a 50mm but I just not very good at it!

The beauty of riding a scooter is that I am able to move myself to different part of the city quickly. Rode around my usual places, but it does seem like the city is so crowded, so I decided to head home instead.

Jeti Pantai Kelanang

Few months ago, I did a drive to Pantai Kelanang. While driving back, decided to take the less travelled road and discovered a jetty. Quite nice and quaint to take photo. I should ride my bike here at some point.

Street Shoot in 2021

Yesterday, I decided to bring out my camera out after a long hibernation. Last year was going to be a pretty good year when it comes to photography, but that fell short due to the pandemic. I guess – we all have to take sacrifices when it comes to the pandemic. Different people have different degree of impact due to the pandemic, and I myself have a fair share of issues when it comes to pandemic.

Running around KL city

Nevertheless, yesterday – I took my brand new scooter for a run around KL city, while lugging around my trusty M Monochrom. Snapped a few photos 🙂

Ride To Behrang

This morning I woke up early, finished a session on BodyPump via LesMills on Demand, and decided to take the bike out for a quick ride. Obviously, this is the first weekend after the state borders were opened. As such, I do expect the traffic to be extra heavy.

True enough, the road coming up to the North was extra heavy. I had to be very careful as there will be a lot of cars who have not been on the highway for awhile, as such they will be zooming thru.

I rode my bike from PJ to Sg Tengi (via Bukit Tagar Toll) and exit thru Soeharto before taking a rest at Behrang Stesen. After that – I head straight back.

It has been a long while

It has been a long while since I last written on this blog. Truth be told, I have been distracted by quite a lot of other things. I guess, the Conditional Movement Control Order or CMCO, has really gotten me. I am generally quite distracted now and only recently able to get back control over the things that I should be doing.

Anyway, while I was cleaning up the stuffs on my computer, I thought I should post a blog post, just for the fun of it. I have not been able to get out to take photo as there have been quite a lot of cases out there, and I should not be going out as much as I want.

The attached photo, is just a random shoot during my walk few months ago in Pasar Karat.

Queue For Food – Taiping

It has been a long while since the last time I wrote anything on this blog. I guess I have been pre-occupied with a lot of things. I should write more, but it is just difficult to find the discipline to do so!

I thought a good way to start the blog posting is to post a photo that I shot a few weeks ago when I went to Taiping for a road trip. It was a quick ride, eat and go home.

The thing to note is that now we are in the middle of a pandemic, as such I should travel around so much. In fact, now we are in wave 3, and I believe this impacts a lot of people. Sigh.

Queue for Food

The photo above shows a long queue for food. I did not manage to get into the food court because I was trying to stay away. In fact, I was sweating like nobody’s business because I was wearing a jacket! Stupid me, I should have taken out my jacket and put in my saddlebag.

Back at Street Shooting

It has been a long while since I last took out the camera. The Movement Control Order has brought my camera to its knees. Barely months after purchased, I am unable to take out for shooting.

Today – I brought the camera out for shooting. I could not decide where to go. Hence the default option, which is Petaling Street, came to mind. My goal was to walk as long as possible until the battery runs out, shoot as many frames as I possibly can!

Here is one of the photos, which I thought worthy of sharing. It may be perceived to be unethical, as it about the homeless, but I guess there’s no face, and the story depicts how sad it can be. We should explore how we can help the homeless to get back on their feet, and more importantly get proper shelter instead of by the roadside.

Missing Photography

It has been a long while since I last took any photos. My cameras are all inside my dry box, waiting for me to take it out and shoot. The question that I have in my mind is:

Should I go out and shoot

The Situation Now

Here are the facts with regards to the situation:

  1. Movement Control Order has been transitioned to Conditional Movement Control Order.
  2. There are no limits with regards to the movement except for the areas designated as a lockdown. The Ministry of Health will lock down any areas if there are clusters detected.
  3. We can go out and roam around but will need to take the necessary precautions like social distancing and masks.

Should I Wait?

Honestly, I am not particularly sure whether I can or not go out. The facts that I listed above is based on what I read in the papers. Even today, when I drove to The Curve to buy a birthday present for my dad, I was not very sure but took the chance as I really need to get him a present (sounds stupid right?). Yes – come to think of it.

Here is my thought process with regards to whether it is safe to go out:

  1. I need to pay particular attention to social distancing.
  2. Always wear a mask.
  3. Do not interact with people UNLESS it is absolutely necessary.
  4. Stay away from crowds.

Seriously, it is a predicament that I have. After more than 1.5 months being stuck at home (or in-office), I am now rearing to go out to get fresh air. Though shooting is a non-essential activity. I can postpone this further rather than taking unnecessary risks.

After – reading what I wrote above, I have made the decision to NOT GO OUT and will stay at home until further notice. I will decide again, come next week.

Garbage Shopping

One of the noble work that we have out there, is being a garbage collector. In fact – we always see them as filthy and dirty, but have we ever thought about what if they don’t exist. Can we survive without them?

In fact – if you look at the typical Malaysian streets – it’s filled with garbage. It’s just everywhere. If you have the chance to walk behind the alleys – you will notice a dirty situation, because most people just cannot be bothered with throwing their trash properly.

Anyway – the photo shows a garbage collector checking out a pair of jeans that was thrown away. He seems to be happy (minus the shock of me pointing the lens to him!).

“Out” of the city

During my street shoot on a Sunday – 1st March, I bumped into a person sleeping under a cabana. I don’t think its a homeless person because he did not have any luggage with him. I suspect, it is a drunk person from the night before.

I am not sure if you can see the person, but it is at the bottom right hand corner 🙂

I guess, the image is not very well composed, because it is hard to be able to notice the person on the bottom right hand corner!

I generally don’t like to shoot homeless, but since the photo does not have any face, I think it is fine. You can’t tell who the person is 🙂

Resting

Behind the hustle and bustle of the market, the cleaners do take time to rest and have a sip of coffee in tied in plastic packs. The cleanliness(or non-cleanliness) of the market relies on these souls. They work hard throughout the morning and they do deserve the time for that quick sip.

Another photo from Sin Sze Ya temple. A photo of an old lady praying. At the right time of the day, should be able to get very good light from the skylight on the roof.
