Pudu – Street Butcher

Remember the post I wrote about the street butcheries in Pudu and Jalan Imbi? Well, it all started when I mentioned them during a previous shoot. I said there were butcheries near Masjid India and Lebuh Pasar. One morning, I was walking and saw a mobile butchery set up at the back of a 1-tonne lorry. People from all walks of life were there – the locals, shopkeepers, and even folks who would drive to pick up the produce and put it in their car boots.

Now, I’m not going to go into details about hygiene, but it seems like this is a pretty common sight. In fact, I’ve seen similar butcheries in the back streets before, especially during festivals like Hari Raya Haji. It seems like the business is doing well, and these butcheries are becoming more and more common.

I’m curious where they source their cows from. I noticed that the butcheries are run by people who look like foreigners. I guess it’s because beef is a staple for them, which means their income level has definitely increased.
I’m not sure if the authorities will take action. I can’t imagine this being legal. Think about all the waste that’s generated – blood and liquid from the meat flowing through our common drainage. It could definitely carry some diseases.

Well, we’ll just have to wait and see where this all goes.
