Houses

You know how sometimes we think something is junk, but it turns out to be a hidden gem?

That’s exactly what happened to me with my photos. Especially in the digital age, we tend to take way too many photos and end up storing them in our hard drives. Often, they just sit there, waiting to be discovered.

Today, I decided to take a look at some photos I took 20 years ago with my first DSLR, the Olympus E-300. Back then, I was a member of Photomalaysia and joined a trip with the forum members to Malacca. My experience was limited, so I mostly took snapshots with a few gems in between.

One of the photos I found was more artistic in nature. I processed it to look like Provia slides, with some grains in between. When I first saw it, I thought, “This could be a good photo if I make some adjustments.”

Here are some of the steps I took to post-process it:

  1. Straightened the photo
  2. Made the roof color more saturated, with a good contrast between the red roof and the blue sky.
  3. Increased the color of the sky to drive the contrast, and added a bit of greenish tint to give it a “Provia” look.
  4. Added a bit of grain to pretend it was a film shot.

As a base, I used ChatGPT to generate a base preset. Did you know you can do that too? This is technology!
