Medium Format

Decided after a long thought – to get a medium format camera. My arsenal is pretty light generally with one black and white range finder and a Sony to shoot architecture and landscapes. The sony is pretty old and decided to look at options for an upgrade and honestly, it felt like its time to move on to a medium format.

Years ago, digital medium format is definitely not reachable due to the cost of the equipment. A Phase One camera – probably going to set you back at least about 100k, give and take! Seriously – not reachable at all, and I won’t even be considering burning that amount of money for a camera (unless I have double-digit millions in my bank account).

This is a comparison of the original out of the camera shot versus a linear gradient adjusted shot. As you can see from the photo (which doesn’t do justice), the shadow recovery way really pretty damn good. In fact, I could still pull the shot upwards of 4.5 stops, and the detail is still there.

Above is the final image that was shot, adjusted with linear gradients and some shadow/black level adjustments.

One thing for sure, the camera is damn bloody shit for street. Heavy, bulky – compared to the rangefinder that I have. Anyway – lets see what good photos I can get out of this camera!
