Microsoft Surface Pro 3

I am a very visual person. I write down almost every damn thing, especially for work. I waste paper like nobody’s business, write here… write there, write everywhere. In fact jotting down notes ensure I get to remember what I write. In addition to that, writing down notes – I get to open my mind, and somewhat brainstorm with my own self.

There’s this one occasion where I needed to do a slide deck for a client. Information was everywhere, my brain was not focused, and I get a lot of pressure from my boss to get it done. The slide deck was to be presented to my APAC head. So what I did was instead of trying to doing slides bit by bit, I got myself a meeting room with a 20 foot whiteboard. I went into a brainstorm spree, fully utilized the whole whiteboard. In fact, towards the end of the session, I had so much information (well organized) and I was ready to do the slides!

So in summary,

  • I am a visual person
  • I like to write down notes
  • I like to brainstorm with myself (that doesn’t sound right?)

So this where moving me to my next point, writing on paper is great, but – I would love to keep my notes well organized. I hate having papers all around. I would love to be able to write and store into OneNote or Evernote. For my personal stuffs – I use Evernote, so screw everything else. Now I want to focus on work. OneNote is great, I use it damn a lot. Copy paste everywhere, drop the email, drop this, drop that.. but I am missing the element to be able to draw! That is something that I want to do.

So hence, my search for the perfect tablet started many moons ago. I started with a Sony Vaio Duo. It was great, it was one of the few initial tablet released as part of windows 8. It was bulky I must say, but I guess it wasn’t good enough. It had its issues.Duo_Black_01_Hero

I used the tablet for a good 1 year, before my dad’s macbook decided to give way, and I had to give him this. And the search continues. At some point I did consider to get the next version of the Vaio Duo, which was the bigger version of the Vaio. 13 inches, comes with LTE connectivity – it was great, but I figure it was too bulky and heavy. If I want to get another tablet, I need to get something which I can carry around everywhere. Susah susah.

So the search continues, the next up is of course Microsoft Surface. I have seen surface before which was the Surface Pro 1 and Surface Pro 2. Both of it was pretty small running at 10 inches screen space. In fact, that is something which I can handle. But the bulkiness was an issue. The surface RT is good but surface pro, damn.. thick!

If you notice, the thickness of Surface pro 3 has been reduced from 13.5mm to 9.1mm. That’s a big reduction, and because of that – I decided to go and Surface Pro 3.

Honestly, I didn’t pre-order the Surface Pro 3, because I did not want to commit something that I have not touched, feel, test and tried. It’s not a cheap device! It’s expensive. Starts from RM2799 up to RM6799. Damn expensive. So in the past two days prior to getting the Surface, I’ve been visiting the usual suspects and see if they have stocks. In fact, in the forum everybody was looking for one. Amazing. Not easy ok! not easy at all.

So look up, look down, look left, look right – finally I managed to find one! It was really lucky. It was the exact specs that I wanted.. duh… take it lar.. 🙂

So now I am using the Surface. Hehehehe. Let’s see in the next couple of weeks how it feels like.
