Maiga Throwback – Seaweed

Maiga, at the time of the shoot – seaweed harvesting was one of the main source of in come. In this photo, we see a hardworking man engaged with dried seaweed at a bustling beach. It’s a typical day in coastal parts of Malaysia where traditional methods of harvesting and processing give life to the local economy. The man, dressed suitably for the tropical weather with a wide-brimmed hat and rolled-up sleeves, shows dedication and skill in a job that might seem mundane yet is crucial for his community. He’s surrounded by the natural beauty of a clear blue sky and sandy beach, illustrating a harmony between work and nature. This is a glimpse into the sustainable livelihoods that define many coastal communities, where every day is a blend of tradition, hard work, and environmental awareness. It’s a real and raw representation of how traditional practices continue to sustain communities, making them an essential part of Malaysia’s diverse cultural fabric.
