Kuala Lumpur is a city full of surprises. In the older parts of town, you’ll often stumble upon scenes that feel completely out of place in a typical modern metropolis. A few weeks ago, while wandering around, I came across a group of men handling meat out of the back of a lorry.
You’d expect something like this in a wet market—but here they were, cutting up large chunks of meat right there at the back of the truck. Once prepared, the meat was distributed in all sorts of ways: some was stuffed into plastic bags and carried off by hand, some taken into nearby shops—presumably for sale—and some even loaded into the back of cars. Let’s just say hygiene didn’t seem to be a top priority.
